A woman who was stabbed to death in Birmingham this weekend has been identified by neighbours as a social worker who was in the area undertaking a home visit.
Belinda Rose, aged 63, was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday afternoon and Inderjit Ram, aged 52, has today been charged with her murder.
A resident from the area, who wished to remain anonymous, told local reporters: “It is really tragic, Belinda was the assigned social worker for the house which is a house of multiple occupancy”
“We used to see her all the time and she was a lovely woman. She really had a passion for her job and was brilliant with people. She used to check on the residents she was responsible for and ensured they lived the best life they could. We became quite close over time”
“I can’t stop thinking about Belinda, and her family, she had been dealing with her husband who had been very ill recently, so for this to happen now is beyond belief. I just can’t believe this happened so close to our home, thank god the kids were not playing outside when it happened, anything could have happened.”
Another neighbour, who also did not want to be publicly identified, explained that: “There were police all over the place over the weekend, we knew something serious had happened”
Neighbours told reporters that Belinda had been working to provide “supported living” for tenants in the supported accommodation.
A resident told of how: “She was working between properties and looking after tenants who had various problems”
A number of Police cars and ambulances, along with several police officers, had swooped on the street on Saturday following a report that Belinda had been found with fatal injuries at an address in Pendragon Road, on Saturday afternoon (August 17).
The 63-year-old social worker, from Walsall, was pronounced dead at the scene at around 1.50pm after emergency services had arrived.
A large Police cordon was erected in the street, while several officers were seen making enquiries within the taped off area.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said in a statement: “Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found with fatal injuries at a house in Pendragon Road, Perry Barr. Officers attended the address at around 1.50pm, where a woman was found with stab injuries. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene”.
Inderjit Ram, 52, of Great Barr, Birmingham, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning and has been charged with murder.
